Following the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, many women and children disappeared from their homes and villages. In the shadow of Mt. Everest, some of the world’s most active human trafficking routes exist.

Years prior to the earthquake, Sharmila Ghimire lay gasping for breath, her heart struggling to pump blood through her body. Her husband, Dhan Raj Ghimire, pleaded desperately to an unknown god for mercy. Sharmila’s condition stabilized in response, and weeks later, her physician shockingly declared her healed of her yearslong heart failure. Motivated by their miraculous recovery, the couple resolved to show compassion to the lost and hurting in Nepal.

Many families live in slums where children are not encouraged to attend school, and government apathy allows human slavery to continue. Despite the pain and poverty in Nepal, the Ghimires are betting on an agricultural investment that could change the country forever.
